All Electric Roadster by Tesla Motors

Rich Sage’s 2008 Car of the Year!
Well, it’s a bit early to proclaim the 2008 car of the year, but I am pretty sure that the Tesla Roadster >> is going to be able to handle that position for the rest of the year.
The internal combustion engine is finally at it’s end. I think we reached that tipping point in 2007, after several false starts. Now the car industry, and several small start-ups are finally coming out with performance cars that can make every teen with a drivers license drool. I was such a person a few years ago. I had my eyes on a Corvette and still do. Every American kid does, I think –at least the guys I hung out with did… It’s still the working mans’ sports car.
But, the “times are changing” and unless General Motors Vice Chairman Bob Lutz comes up with some kind of radical change to a Corvette in the next few years, I’ve found my ride: The Tesla Roadster, assuming that I have enough head room. The Corvette bearly does!
It’s incredible what the Tesla Roadster can do:
- All electric car
- 0 to 60 in under 4 seconds
- Gets the equivalent of 135 MPG (about $0.02 per mile)
- Two gears! One to 65 mph, and two going up to 135 — cool!
- Obviously, it has a lot less parts than a car with an internal combustion engine
- The car uses a special battery pack
that has a few thousand AA-size lithium ion cells. - Recharging times are as few as 3.5 hours! And that can be via your own solar station.
Overall, I am sure that it’ll have some debut issues, but it looks like they’ve designed and built things almost as a custom car, so, I doubt a mass production problem exists.
It will be nice to see these out on the streets and herleding in a new generation of transportation!
GO TESLA!
