Anatomy of Search Engine Good Will

Anatomy of Search Engine Good Will by the Rich Sage

By using the below techniques, you can greatly expand the traffic you’ll get  from the likes of Google and Bing and other search engines.  My focus here is on Google, and in the exercise, I’ll show you what I have done to build my “good will” and get plenty of traffic for Savepedia™.

The first order of business to help make money online is to chose a good CMS –Content Management System.  Regardless of your CMS –let’s just use Wordpress for this example, you’ll find a plugin that is SEO (search engine optimization) friendly.  In the case of Wordpress, I strongly suggest a plugin such as ALL-IN-One SEO. As for the wiki, I didn’t want to rely on yet another code, which at times puzzles me.  I just edited the template for the theme I am using to include the below tags.

In the process I edited some PHP code to insert page names to each of the pages that are created, and the page name is also inserted into the title.

Below is an image of the META tags that I’ve used, by simply inserting them and some variables using the main theme used by MediaWiki.

I’ll cover the use of the ALL in ONE SEO Wordpress plugin when I update everyone tomorrow.

Now to more about traffic building…

Other items you’ll need to round out the SEO Good Will:

* I’ve already mentioned the All in ONE SEO Pack.
* Next you’ll need to install a SITE MAP.  In Wordpress that is easy… Just input the plugin called Google Sitemap Generator found here.
* As for sitemaps on MediaWiki, you’ll find all the plugins you’ll ever need here.

Once you install all the plugins, make sure they work and don’t present a conflict on your Wordpress or Mediawiki install, then it’s time to tell the world –in this case, using Google Webmaster Tools area.  You’ll see a screen like the one below where you can create a free account.

Getting your own account is worth it –just checkout all the tools you have within the /Webmasters/ area that can greatly enhance the type of traffic you help Google deliver to your prized domain.

Once you are in, it’s a matter of verifying each domain you want to have Google crawl.  You’ll see a screen like the one below:

My suggestion is that once you are in, update all the items that you possibly can.  Then make note to update all of your domains with the tools.

You’ll be amazed what happens next –more crawling by Google, more traffic by Google and more targeted visitors.

It all works out as a great gift from Google.  Once again, don’t forget to FIRST setup your XML sitemap that Google can read on a daily basis.

If you don’t do that, the efficiency of what you just setup is lost.

Ok, back to enjoying my day.  I’ll follow up again with more setup details for the sitemaps and SEO plugins.

Carpe Diem,
Rich Sage

Does anyone know any good sources of backlinks that will improve my search engine ranking?

You can always get lists of high-PR sites. Then there are articles. In my case I’ve done some of each, but now I purely rely on good content. I at least try…

I’d personally look for a shopping cart which can be transferred on any other hosting (if necessary) or a dedicated server. This would allow you to keep your store files and data and pay for a license only once.

There are many search engines such as yahoo, google and bing so on. The recent news is that these search engines are in competition each other and so on. How can we determine that a search engine is giving best search results?

@printing - What you need to do is a competitor analysis on the keywords that you’re targeting, and using this information you can implement a link building and internet marketing strategy.
