Google Ad Manager Review by the Rich Sage

Google Ad Manager is a hosted ad management solution that can help you
sell, schedule, deliver, and measure all of your directly-sold and
network-based inventory.
I think the Ad Manager is the perfect
solution for selling advertising on BiiG.COM, the portal that I’ve setup recently.

For sites that are getting more and more visitor traffic, Google Ad Manager is the perfect tool for online ad sales and inventory management.  I have just deployed Google’s Ad Manager, and as per my usual pace, I am slowly implementing all that it can do.

Google’s Ad Manager does take some getting used when setting up.  It’s not that technical, but there are several elements to the setup that one must take care doing.

In my case, I first took interest to it to manage ads at Rich Sage dot com, and I was sold.  From what I see now, I may be able to use it to manage an entire network of advertising sales working with Members in the network that I’ve created.

Right from the start I noticed these two primary benefits from Google’s Ad Manager:

  • Speed and reliability — I’ve tried to use ad management software that often depended on the hosting accounts speed to deliver ads.  Not with Ad Manager.  It’s fast –hosted on Google servers.
  • There is no maintenance of the program itself –no need to worry late at night or on vacation IF ads are getting delivered.

Google Ad Manager Define Inventory

With this Review, I’ll begin a Exploration of Google Ad Manager, covering:

  • A Google Ad Manager Introduction –today.
  • Part Two: What you can do with Google Ad Manager –finer details.
  • Part Three: Google Ad Manager Setup
  • Part Four: Deploying Google Ad Manager
  • Part Five:  Summary and Fine Tuning Google Ad Manager

Google Ad Manager 5-Part Series Continues…

Once you map out your website, it’s time to make tags that are placed in the areas where ads are displayed.  This part does take time, but it’s well worth it considering that you don’t need to spend time setting up, delivering or taking away resources to make ad sales.

This part is a bit time-consuming.  But, consider that once setup, your ads are getting deployed automatically.  This is about as easy as the AdSense setup –setup and forget, practically.

Google Ad Manager Generate Ad Tags

In essence, Ad Manager helps you maintain:

  • Advertising inventory –no need to use several program to track usage, displays and report to advertisers.
  • There’s no need to optimize your ad delivery, or adding value for advertisers –the management system makes sure that your advertisers get the best value for their ad dollars.
  • One of the most painful ordeals related to advertising sales is the order booking, which is elegantly handled by Ad Manager.
  • And then all of this is handled for you, and various types of reports are made available to advertisers.  In effect, your account administration is done by Google Ad Manager!

Google Ad Manager Inventory Check

Google Ad Manager provides an independent verification system for your advertisers.  In the past they could have always argued that your stats are “questionable”.  When looking at Ad Manager, your advertisers will have to question Google’s stats, which are rather dependable.

There are several report formats that are perfect for various ‘levels’ of admin from company staff to sales departments down to the advertising buyers.

Google Ad Manager Performance Reports

Lastly, there is the nasty little detail of actually delivering the ads in a meaningful manner.  I think this is the best benefit of Google’s Ad Manager.  It’s a good insurance policy for vacation times and a good nights’ sleep.

Google Ad Manager Deployed

My review of Google Ad Manager will continue as I explore many of the features, most of the setup details, deployment and a summary regarding how to optimize and get the best results for your site.  Of course, Google Ad Manager is a free service –get your own free account here.

This I hope is just the beginning for my long-term relationship with Google Ad Manager as I use it to monetize several network sites.

Carpe Diem,
Rich Sage

Rich - Thank you for the heads up and the review. I have been using my own ad server but if this integrates with my Google Affiliate and Ad Sense account, it will take extra steps out of my process and I am all for efficiency.

Hello Chase,
Yes, the Ad Manager will deliver Google Ad Sense ads until your advertising spaces are “filled” by ad clients.

Overall, the Google Ad Manager tool is very well setup, and I too abandoned a open source ad manager program in favor of Google’s Ad Manager.

Keep in mind that it delivers independent stats, which I am sure our advertisers favor overwhelmingly.

Success,
RS.

also I think in your article’s last sentence - “This I hope is just the begging for my long-term relationship …” you mean “beginning”

Blogpreneur,

The main advantage is that AdManager by Google is hosted. Apart from that, they continue to make advances and error corrections to their platforms, at a pace that the open source community cannot keep up with.

All this is free, and supports integration with AdSense. Add to that the credibility of a Google service reporting stats and I think you have a compelling reason to go with AdManager over the other possibilities.

Success,
RS
