Review of the Notepad++ Source code editor and Notepad Replacement
One of the programs that I use often to manage and edit information is Notepad++. It’s a program that has evolved over many years, designed and programmed by one individual to help the programming community. I don’t edit too often programming code, but I have set it as the default editor on my Windows “box”.
The function I use most often is “find and replace” and that comes in very handy when editing hundreds of pages of database information for example. Notepad++ only runs on Windows, but it can edit any type of code.
There is also support for many languages –real world languages, as opposed to computer code.
Here is a short list of the benefits:
- Multiple views
- As I said, search and replace of regular expressions
- Highlighting certain types of characters
- Record and playback of key strokes
- Lastly, several languages are supported
- When a new version is available, it prompts you to update
I think that Notepad++ will be one of the most beneficial free programs that you’ll download and install for your Windows environment. I say this only after using a handful of features. I know there are several dozen more that could make life easier, but I just haven’t had the time to explore them.
Carpe Diem,
