RE: Perfect Workstation

After more than 10 years of building my own pc from scratch, it’s time to let a pros do the work. I will still build some pc’s for the office network. These are machines that run Win XP or Linux. But for my main workstation that needs to run Linux, Windows XP and MAC OSX (yes, in a given day I use all the OS’s for various reasons), I will choose the below config. I plan to purchase the machine in a few months following the release of OSX newest version and the final setup of an office network and back up solution.

Mac Pro

One 16x SuperDrive
Apple Keyboard –I’ll have to install a replacement.

500GB 7200-rpm Serial ATA 3Gb/s
500GB 7200-rpm Serial ATA 3Gb/s

(perhaps, one HD for each OS with a local back up for all there that is in Linux OS, accepting back up files via FTP –just an idea)

Accessory kit
Two 3.0GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon
4GB (4 x 1GB)
500GB 7200-rpm Serial ATA 3Gb/s
500GB 7200-rpm Serial ATA 3Gb/s
Mac OS X - U.S. English
4 x NVIDIA GeForce 7300 GT 256MB –this will connect to a DELL/Samsung 24″ or 27″ inch screen. OR two depending on space limitation.

All this will then sync to a laptop daily, which I can take home and work on when necessary. Most of my emails are answered from home.

Lastly, all the files will be on a NETWORK ACCESS STORAGE (NAS) that I can access remotely, should I need any of the files. This would be impossible to do while running the OS, so, it’s best done by utilizing a NAS.

I’ll keep updating this area as I plan more, get and use the pc for work. I hope it will last 3 to 4 years, as all of my PCs have in the past. I always build pcs with multiple CPUs as they tend to last very long and keep up their speed. In fact, my linux box running a publishing application for Maxsimo.NET is now 6 years old and still going strong. Of course, running RED HAT linux.
