Rich Sage Twitter Review
What is Twitter?
Twitter provides a service where subscribers can receive short messages of up to 140 characters via twitter.com or even a registered mobile phone. My profile is here… and the purpose for setting up the profile I’ll discuss below.

Twitter Poll on CNN.COM, 19 April 2009
It’s all the buzz and hype these days: Are you twittering? Twittering seems to be the “Google” type catch phrase of the latter part of this decade… No longer are you asked online “Did you google that?”. Now everyone asks “Have you sent a tweet today?” or “Have you twittered today?” Well, as you see from the above CNN.COM poll, not everyone. At least not yet. But, 7% of the people seem to be very “cool” by doing so, I guess.
Or is it? Do we really need Twitter? Read on…
Rich Sage Twitter Review Continued…
These days it’s hard to divide the hype from a true, and useful application. I had created a Twitter account a long time ago just to see what it can do, and how it worked. I was not that impressed. My purpose at most web2.0 sites is to build traffic. I think the best and lasting way to build traffic is to have valuable content AND impress the search engines with it.
As for Twitter, I think it’s a “hit” –no doubt about it. So is YouTube and a hundred other Web2.0 sites. Just like these sites, Twitter has yet to make their first dollar selling a commercial application. So far the winners seem to be the telcos that charge for SMS messages.
I read Digg a few times a week to look over what’s happening in the world and catch up on tech news. I have gone to YouTube because I need to communicate better my messages to the masses of Members. But, at the end of the day, I have to ask myself this question: When I spend an hour or two daily working on my site traffic, what shall I do in that time?
The answer is to work on great content and making sure the search engines deliver the readers that I hope to have here. As for Twitter, I think it’ s just another way to “stay in touch” with the masses.
My suggestion to you is use Twitter IF you have a need to urgently communicate with a select group of people –even a few hundred –a VITAL message. Such a need will never go away.
The myriad of options keep increasing, until everyone has that mass communication ‘chip’ implant! Now we have:
- Blogs
- RSS
- Tweets
- IM
I am sure I missed a few others. I am sure someone is working on a way to pump low-frequency messages to the ‘ether’ so that we can pull them off the stratosphere instantly to get updated.
BUT, I also feel that sending a “Tweet” saying “I just had lunch at the ‘cool’ place.”, where “cool” is equal to the latest hip place in LA, is not even the least useful way to use such a service as Twitter.
Then why did I get a Twitter account? First to protect my Rich Sage brand. Second, I want to give my future next super stock market membership participants a way (another option) to get notifications that an update was posted to the membership area with yet another potential “Next Super Stock”.
But, I don’t want to bother anyone with details about my lunch. You should just assume that I was hungry. Then to solve that, I had lunch, and that it was delicious. If you want to know what Demi Moore and Ashton Kutcher had for lunch or dinner and knowing that benefits your life, your well being and that of your family, in some way, more power to you! It’s your life and your time –you are in control as never before.
As for myself, I think all of these ‘applications’ that are getting churned out by the day are great. We are connected like never before. But for a guy that keeps his cell phone off most of the time, I like to control when I am connected.
As for Twitter going mainstream –Not even close. Just because CNN talked about Twitter and Larry King spent an hour talking about it, does it constitute “mass acceptance” and “societal must have”? I don’t think so.
I do believe Twitter has a some fantastic uses –For example, imagine when there is a national emergency, like a hurricane or major earthquake. Anyone in charge can use the service to inform in real time to the masses details about food, shelter and water. All this is assuming that the cell phone system works. But, it may be the best solution.
In our case, marketing products and services online, I think it’s yet another way to inform our customers or clients what beneficial information that we’ve updated lately.
Well, I don’t want to end my notes on Twitter in such a serious manner. Here is a YouTube video about the “next big thing” called FLUTTER. :) Enjoy!
