Social Networking Traffic

Category: MY REVIEWS, TRAFFIC BUILDING

Building Social Networking Traffic for the Rich Sage

My quest to reach 1,000 visits per day by all types of traffic continues. Today I’ll explore my #1 social networking traffic site, StumbleUpon. I’ll also cover the Technorati, Facebook, Digg and Sphinn sites that greatly contribute to overall visitor count. All the above mentioned sites are part of the Web2.0 barrage of sites. But that does not mean we should forget the old, tested and proven sites like Google and Yahoo that also generate an enormous amount of traffic.

1. Stumble Upon >>

Stumble Upon

Stumble Upon’s (SU) member review process can lead to a lot of traffic when the members find your site interesting. Within SU, you then need a viral growth of exposure to members. I’ve inserted the main page, and now expanding to insert several post pages to expose to SU members.

Since SU members are always Stumbling on to new sites, it helps to insert several promising pages of content. It will great help to have a recognizable brand to generate repeat traffic.

2. Technorati >>

Technorati

Technorati is a search engine for blogs. Technorati is just as popular for posting a list of the most read blogs. They actually “grade the content from my bolg” and I’ll have to post this code “Technorati Profile” so that their spider will capture my page content after verification. Since the site captures my blog posts, I am not doing anything more than checking in on updates to help with traffic.

3. Facebook >>

Facebook

Facebook was originally for students, and now it’s expanded to anyone over the age of 13. There are over 60 million members who have total control of over who will see their profile. I took interest in Facebook because of their pay-per-click advertising model. That all depends now on what type of traffic that you’re trying to get. I will advertise with them to market my e-book and business credit manual.

4. Digg >>

Digg

Digg is part of “my routine” –when I make a post that I think is ‘newsworthy’ to the Internet Marketing or online make money community, I go to digg and sphinn (below) and announce that I have a new post. In the case of digg, it’s a matter of making an insertion of details with a title, body and URL to the digg admin. Then it verifies the post and goes live with the news article. Blogger do try to manipulate posts by having people who “Digg an Article” but that is short lived and not that common. Overall, that’s hot on digg is there for a reason.

5. Sphinn >>

Sphinn

Sphinn is pretty much the same as digg, but with fewer users and less “restraints” to publishing an article. They don’t have the interactive checking that digg has, plus an image with the post. However, the readers do follow the links to get to their favorite articles that presented on the first page. On both digg and sphinn that can lead to massive traffic. My goal is not to reach that traffic, but to get a steady stream of people coming by each time I post there.

Both digg and sphinn have plug-ins for rating their content on a major blog software. WordPress has the plug-in, but I elect to use the Share It plug-in to do the publishing.

6. Google >>

Google

The link to Google above is actually going to their Webmaster Tools section, and for a good reason. Why all the above sites and blow ones may aide traffic generation by publishing blog posts to those sites, Google allows you to do the same by just using their tools. WordPress presents an elegant way to accomplish this with the Google SEO Pack that I discussed. After installing the SiteMap feature on your blog, just let Google know where to find it. Then Google will do the rest of the work. At this time, Google happens to be my largest sender of traffic. Do I want to be better friends with Google? Of course!

7. Yahoo >>

Yahoo

Yahoo is also doing some of the same tricks presented by Google. The SEO Pack is my solution to dealing with Yahoo. The same process that notifies Google, generates the same file for Yahoo and MSN –the result is a lot less workload to let the 3 major search engines know that I have updated a blog post

8. MSN >>

MSN

Once again, with one WordPress plug-in I am able to help MSN update my content on their search engine. I don’t find that I need to go out of my way to do this. But since one tool helps me reach a place that does about 10% of all searches, why not?

9. YouTube >>

YouTube

Although, this is not the traditional text type of place to broadcast a message, I consider it the #1 place or system to put a message. YouTube is perfect for “How To” and teaser messages that generate traffic from viewers who need more information.

YouTube will become a greater and greater source of traffic as the web goes more and more video content with greater broadband penetration. I’ve put up a few videos. The best way to take advantage of that process is to have a introductory and ending graphic in the video with your website address or brand that’s easy to see.

10. Reddit >>

Reddit

Reddit is a site that allows you to post content and members will then vote on it, moving the content up in the ranking system. It’s just another place to broadcast content, but it’s not on my list of site where I go all the time.

Lastly, there is my own site. You may not consider you own blog as being a Web2.0 site for broadcasting content, but WordPress makes it such a site with a few plug-ins. Mainly the Feedburner plug-in that notifies via RSS feeds that you’ve done an update. Well, that information is sent to hundreds if not hundreds of thousands of people, essentially doing the same as a Web2.0 member content site. Thus, there is no difference.

11. RichSage, Example of WordPress Benefits Running…

My routine for article publishing is the same as that for content broadcasting –the better the article or post, the more people I want to tell about it. The more that I work on an article, the more time I spend going to the above sites and taking the time to update them and notify that I have valuable content for everyone to read.

Carpe Diem, Rich Sage

Hey Rich Sage,

how are you?

I’ve been following your blog for quite a while. Actually got it on my Google personalised homepage, called IGoogle.

What’s your best traffic source? I’ve seen that SU, Digg and Reddit drive the most traffic. SU and Digg traffic doesn’t really convert into regular readers, but Reddit visitors do sign up for my feed or email list.

It all depends on the purpose of the blog, but in the end we all want traffic that ’sticks’.

Hey Dave,
All is well, thanks for asking!

Sure Dave, traffic that “sticks” is the final objective. But, there is no silver bullet for that. So, what I do is go for all the traffic and keep adding great content. I am sure I’ll get a following that way. I’ve got a new e-book coming out, and I think with dozens of links coming back to the Rich Sage, I’ll have a lot of repeat traffic that way.

A great 2008 to you, Dave.
Sam,
Rich Sage.

Hey Sam,

thanks for the heads up. Be sure to let me know when your new eBook is coming out. Your blog is great, so your eBook is something I’m looking forward to.

Will definately give you some ‘link love’ then!
