It will be a next gen iPod Touch. There were 3 Apple insiders who came out with this story via TechCrunch (http://www.techcrunch.com/2008/12/30/large-form-ipod-touch-to-launch-in-fall-09/) and they said that the testing was ongoing for a long time. However, the developers at Apple didn't feel it was "strong" enough of a product. That mentality changed when the APP STORE took off, making available thousands of third party applications. Now the idea is sound: A next gen iPod Touch that's a lot like an Apple version of a tablet pc that out does any netbook type of device. For my needs, such a device with 4 times the display area of a current iPod Touch is perfect for reading ebooks, online newspapers and just browse web sites. It will be a bonus to have such a device with a screen based keyboard so that I can do basic form fills and short message. No need for a real keyboard. I am sure we'll see such a device in 2009! RS.
