Rich Sage Traffic Building 2009

The one word that I can mention in my make money online efforts for 2009 is “optimizing”.  Just about every month last year I adjust, tweaked or added content to build sustainable traffic.  Now it’s time to further optimize those strategies, and build a lasting traffic flow that is meaningful.  What I mean by “meaningful” is that I need enough traffic to make Rich Sage dot Com a top 4,000 site AND I need to find the right type of Members around the world to drive the Rich Sage Underground.

Rich Sage dot Com is an experiment on building traffic, making money onlin and developing global communities.  All these efforts require one constant - traffic!  The focus this year is fine tuning that requirement.  In 2008, my traffic grew five fold in what I feel is one of the top five topics online –how to make money online.  Yes, the competition is intense, but I managed to keep the flow moving and rapidly out growing any other site I’ve built.

My Traffic Growing Strategy that is Working:

This year, I am working to quadruple that traffic to several thousand visitors per day.  Here are the mechanisms that I am using to achieve that goal:

• Search engine optimization to build organic traffic.  For several phrases I am building traffic.  These phrases represent around 10 million searches per month.
• Community at Rich Sage dot Com offering useful information that everyone can use to build their online success.
• Lastly, purchased traffic based on certain key phrases that lead to Membership building pages.

ORGANIC TRAFFIC BUILDING:

My organic traffic building was organized around WordPress and it’s use of a sitemap to let the 3 main search engines know what I am up to.  I am using XML sitemap generator.  I don’t tend to write for search engine bots — I just write for real human readers, so, I am not spending all that much time doing much more other than a sitemap.

On the other end — Google Webmaster Area, I have completed all the requirements by Google to record my sitemap, as it’s updated with a new post.

COMMUNITY TRAFFIC BUILDING:

My major effort here is to have a few key posts and areas where people are drawn to the services like my free ad forums, utopia forum -which I have not updated for a while and generally, my writing with several special business building categories.  All the ‘experiments’ are now carried on to the community via the Rich Sage Underground to teach my Members how to build their own websites, traffic and success on a local basis.

Much of this traffic is generated the traditional way using articles, forums postings and coming soon, YouTube videos via my own channel. I think the most traffic I will generate organically will come from videos that get indexed rather quickly by Google.  I hope that at least one will go “viral” but I am not counting on it.

PURCHASED TRAFFIC:

Lastly, the purchased traffic has one purpose –to make conversions to paid Members at my Rich Sage Underground.  I believe that is the only way to monetize and justify costs.  To buy traffic that leads to a focused purpose –either a mailing list, product or a membership sale.

For purchased traffic I am using Google Analytics to track the path of the visitor from a search or third party display, to Rich Sage dot Com at the membership page to the sale –conversion to a trial member.  In this case, success drives more and more success.  I am not sure what my budget will be for purchased traffic, but most of my planning for the enterprise is done based on the number of active members.

For example, I will purchase a new workstation that can run Windows XP, Linux and OS X when I have 100 Members.  I will purchase a new 30″ or larger monitor when I have 250 members.  What I keep doing is planning the success of the entire enterprised based on such numbers.

All aspects of traffic keeps growing steadily — Even if I stop writing for a week, the traffic is steady.  On occasion there is a jump in traffic from a current event.  Then things level off and grow steadily.  Then another jump, and a level off.  That has happened over and over — now it’s just routine.

I believe in 2009, my greatest leap in traffic will come from these pillars that I have focused on for months.  I think you too, when you focus on these aspects will discover that your traffic will keep growing steadily towards the sky.
