Sorry my answer takes a log time… Just caught your note. Deactivating plugins is a “best practice” because the quality of the plugin at times will dictate the way WordPress will respond.

You could have a bad plugin that brings your entire WordPress upgrade crashing down. Better safe than sorry. Success!

T don’t understant what you mean by “not deactivating plugins before backup” Do others recommend deactiviating your plugins?

I’d strongly recommend not deactivating your plugins before backup. This way, you have no need to make any changes when you restore from backup, your site will run as it did when you backed it up.

Also remember to keep a backup of your files as well as your database, otherwise you’ll lose your theme, your images, and any code customisations.

I was looking through your article on plugins… I had just downloaded the Steve Smith (I think it is) RSS plugin and uploaded it to the WP/content/plugins folder I thought…but it wasn’t there when I checked the site so I guess
